Anchorhandling breakthrough contract for ODIM

2009.06.11 - Company News

ODIM has announced that the company has secured a contract from Havyard for delivery of its game changing ODIM Smart AHTS™ anchor handling concept. This order covers the provision of a complete system worth some NOK 320 million, plus an option to supply a second similar package. Delivery is scheduled during 2010.

With the ODIM Smart AHTS™, ODIM has focused attention on developing a solution which is more efficient than competing systems. The concept offers substantial cost savings, a higher level of safety and considerable environmental benefits for shipowner, rig contractor and oil company.

“We regard the Havyard contract as a breakthrough for the ODIM Smart AHTS™,” says Jogeir Romestrand, chief executive of ODIM. “This unique system addresses oil company requirements for cost-effective solutions which can be used in future exploration and production drilling. “It provides substantial efficiency gains for anchor handling operations, while improving crew safety and securing substantial reductions in both carbon and nitrogen oxide emissions.”

The ODIM Smart AHTS™ concept replaces traditional anchorhandling winches with the ODIM CTCU® deepwater technology. Combined with a complete winch system, the latter can handle and install whatever a rig needs for safe and speedy mooring in all depths and waters. New and more efficient mooring methods substantially reduce fuel consumption on the rig. The 250-tonne ODIM CTCU® solution can also carry out complex deepwater installation of subsea modules.

Detailed market analyses have been carried out by ODIM in cooperation with international oil companies, operators and other key players. These indicate a substantial potential for preset mooring of rigs with fibre rope, and the ODIM Smart AHTS™ has been specially tailored for that market. This is found on the continental shelf around Norway and the rest of Europe as well as in the Gulf of Mexico and off Brazil, west Africa and Asia.

The contract with Havyard is conditional on financing and final board approval.
