Bar Protector Reaches Milestone Safety Achievement

2009.10.15 - Company News

Saipem UK Ltd, Sonsub Division dive support vessel Bar Protector has recently reached the milestone achievement of 1,000 days without a lost time incident (LTI).

This is an outstanding accomplishment for a vessel that works on so many varied projects, for so many diverse clients, in some of the most challenging environments worldwide.

The vessel has just completed spool tie-in work in the UK sector of the Southern North Sea, working through some of the biggest spring tides of the year, before carrying out further tie-in work in Denmark.

Bar Protector superintendent John Mackenzie said: “This vessel, with a crew made up of eighteen different nationalities, is a happy ship that prides itself on encouraging every member working as a team to be constantly alert to safety issues and looking after each others back. We all take pride in going the extra mile for a job well done.”

Saipem UK Ltd, Sonsub Division QHSE manager Patrick Johnson added: “This is a major achievement, particularly considering the duration over which the work has been performed, the number of work man-hours that have been involved, and the challenges encountered in executing work over various projects.

“This milestone was achieved with the development of the vessel’s safety culture and Leadership in Safety programme. The Saipem Safety Vision declares ‘A commitment for a safer and better future - The safer, the better’ and the Bar Protector has demonstrated this well.

“Safety is a legitimate personal expectation and constant individual responsibility.

“On behalf of the Sonsub Division QHSE department I would like to congratulate the Bar Protector vessel management and her crew for this achievement. This was truly a team effort.”
