Subsea Specialist Flexlife Opens New UK Base and Appoints Director

Flexlife, an oil & gas industry specialist in subsea project and integrity management, has opened a new base in Newcastle and plans to recruit 25 staff by the end of this year, rising to 50 within 18 months. Flexlife announces £5.5million capital investment deal to accelerate future growth

Subsea specialist flexlife has announced that Maven Capital Partners and Simmons Parallel Energy (SPE) have invested £5.5million growth equity in the company.

The investment deal was led by Simmons & Company International and will help complete commercialisation of new products and underpin future Research & Development work. It will also accelerate flexlife’s ambitious internationalisation plans. 

flexlife was established in 2007 and turnover increased by 70% to £5million in 2009/10. It is targeting turnover of £7.5million this year, rising to £21million by March 2013.

The company has recently opened its first international bases, in Brazil and Asia-Pacific, and increased staffing levels to 40.

flexlife has established a strong reputation for developing innovative products that can help improve critical asset integrity offshore. Its award-winning ultrasonic scanning technology has made history in the oil & gas industry and equally innovative products are in the process of the final stages of commercialisation.

flexlife’s headquarters are at the Spires business centre in Bucksburn, Aberdeen, and it also has a dedicated R&D facility at the Aberdeen Science & Energy Park, Bridge of Don. It is expected to take on an additional 20 staff over the next 18 months in support of an expanded product and service offering and expansion to key geographical regions.     

flexlife has been recognised at the highest level, winning a number of awards in recent months, including the overall best company award in the Scottish Offshore Achievement Awards, National Business Awards for Scotland, the UK-wide HSBC Start-up Stars, Northern Stars and Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise.
