Subsea Specialist Flexlife Opens New UK Base and Appoints Director

Flexlife, an oil & gas industry specialist in subsea project and integrity management, has opened a new base in Newcastle and plans to recruit 25 staff by the end of this year, rising to 50 within 18 months. Subsea specialist flexlife has seen off tough competition to be named as finalists in an impressive four categories at the prestigious Subsea UK Awards.

flexlife, the only company to reach the final in four categories, will go on to compete for the title of Subsea Company of the Year with CEO Stuart Mitchell being shortlisted for the Emerging Talent award. The company is also in the running for both the Innovation and Technology and New Enterprise awards.

Now in their fifth year, the Subsea UK awards celebrate the excellence, innovation and outstanding achievements generated across the pioneering subsea sector and recognise the achievements of individuals and companies of all sizes.

flexlife CEO Stuart Mitchell said: “To be shortlisted as finalists in four categories is a remarkable achievement considering the strong competition in the oil & gas industry.

“The team at flexlife has worked extremely hard to offer an outstanding service and develop ground-breaking products with huge financial, personnel and environmental benefits for operators and we are delighted with the response we have had.

“Our newly-strengthened team is looking forward to building upon existing work in the UK and internationally and winning any of these awards would give real impetus to the next stage of our growth strategy.’’         

Results will be announced at an award ceremony and dinner at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on February 9th with Lord Digby Jones acting as speaker for the evening.

flexlife was established in 2007 and turnover increased by 70% to £5million in 2009/10. The company is targeting turnover of £7.5million this year, rising to £21million by March 2013. It employs 45 people at present and expects to take on a further 30 people in the next 18 months.

flexlife has established a strong reputation for developing innovative products that can help improve critical asset integrity offshore. Its award-winning ultrasonic scanning technology has made history in the oil & gas industry and equally innovative products are in the process of the final stages of commercialisation.
