Technip launches Vertiwind floating wind turbine project

Technip, in association with Nenuphar, Converteam and EDF Energies nouvelles is launching the Vertiwind project to test a pre-industrial prototype of a vertical-axis offshore floating wind turbine. The partners of the project are Seal Engineering, ISITV, IFP Energies nouvelles, Arts et Metiers, Bureau Veritas, Oceanide.Free of the constraints related to the foundations of fixed wind turbines, the Vertiwind concept opens new perspectives for wind farms offshore numerous countries notably in the Mediterranean basin, in Europe and the United States.
Technip is responsible for the design of the floater, mooring system, dynamic electrical connection cable, turbine integration as well as on-site installation.
The Vertiwind project has been labelled by the Sea Cluster of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region. It is among the first beneficiaries of the program "Investing for the Future", a component of the "Grand Emprunt", sponsored by the French Prime Minister through the French Environment and Energy Management Agency.
Technip continues to contribute to the development of a new and innovative industry and confirms its role as a major player in floating offshore wind turbines after the successful design, fabrication and installation of Hywind, the first industrial size floating wind turbine, for Statoil in Norway.
Petroleum Geo-Services ASA ('PGS' or the Company) announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Applied Geophysical Services, Inc. (AGS) for a price of USD 51 million, subject to certain adjustments for changes in working capital. PGS estimates an enterprise value for AGS of approximately USD 46 million. AGS is based in Houston, Texas and specializes in providing advanced depth imaging services. The transaction is expected to close during the course of this week.
Total announces the acquisition of a 40% interest in three exploration permits northeast of Ichthys on the Australian Browse Basin jointly with Inpex (60%, operator). These interests were held by ConocoPhillips. This acquisition is subject to the approval of the Australian authorities.
Rowan Companies, Inc. (NYSE:RDC) announced today that it has entered into contracts with Keppel AmFELS, Inc. for the construction of four Super 116E class jack-ups. The rigs will be built at AmFELS' Brownsville, Texas shipyard, with delivery scheduled at approximately four-month intervals beginning in the second quarter of 2010.
