Bergen Group to upgrade 3 Transocean offshore drilling rigs
Bergen Group has through its subsidiary Bergen Group Hanøytangen AS received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Transocean Offshore (North Sea) Ltd NUF (Transocean) for upgrading of 3 rigs. The LOI also includes an option for modification work on a further unit. The contract will be a significant contribution to Bergen Groups operations in 2008 and 2009.
The LOI is for upgrade and classification work concerning the units Transocean Searcher, Polar Pioneer, Transocean Arctic, as well as an option for corresponding work on a further drilling rig. Bergen Group's scope of work includes detailed project planning, purchasing, as well as involvement in overall project management.
The work commences in September 2008 and will continue until the end of 2009. The work will be carried out at Bergen Group's facilities at Hanøytangen outside Bergen. The facilities, with uniquely sized dry dock and quays combined with easy access from the open ocean, was a key factor for the award of this contract to Bergen Group. Bergen Group Hanøytangen will during this project be able to utilise resources from other units within the Group's Offshore segment; such as Bergen Engineering and Bergen Group Rosenberg.
