Vertec Engineering secures £500k ROV contract
Aberdeen-based Vertec Engineering (Vertec) has secured a significant contract – worth almost £500,000 – to design and manufacture specialist ROV cabins for a global producer of high technology subsea systems.Vertec – which is part of the Offshore Container Holdings Limited (OCHL) Group and specialises in the design, build and rental of service cabins for the oil and gas industry – has been contracted by California-based Schilling Robotics (Schilling) to supply three sets of ROV modules and workshops – a total of six units – for use by its clients.
The units are A60 fire rated as standard, and comply with DNV (Det Norske Veritas) and IMO (International Maritime Organisation) standards. Designed to a standard 20 x 8ft footprint, the units also meet with CSC (International Convention for Safe Containers) standards, allowing for cost-effective international shipping. The modules will house personnel involved in the operation of ROVs and will also provide an onsite maintenance facility for spare parts and repairs.
The deal strengthens the long-term working relationship that exists between Vertec and Schilling, which has already seen Vertec deliver 12 units to the subsea company so far this year, with the Aberdeen-based Schilling personnel involved in the fabrication and outfitting of the units locally.
