Aker Exploration drilling exploration well near Grane/Balder
Aker Exploration is partner in Production License 304 which has started drilling on a prospect near the Grane and Balder fields. The
prospect is called Aegis and is drilled with the rig Songa Dee.
"There are great expectations tied to this prospect which is believed to be oil bearing. The close proximity to existing infrastructure means it could prove commercial even at low volumes", says Bård Johansen, President and CEO of Aker Exploration.
The main purpose of the exploration well is to test Early Eocene reservoir sandstones. Based on the drilling result from the Aegis well, an additional well could be considered later this year.
Operator in license 304 is Lundin Norway with 50 percent working interest, Aker Exploration holds 30 percent and VNG Norge 20 percent.
Aker Exploration holds interests in 21 licenses on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) and will commence a 3 year continuous
drilling program with the rig Aker Barents, focusing on exploration areas in the northern North Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the Barents
Sea. The first well is planned to be spudded in license 321 mid-July this year.
