Dana Gas has made its second gas discovery of 2009 in the West Manzala Concession in the Nile Delta region of Egypt. The discovery, named West Manzala-2 (Haggag prospect), has encountered approximately 20 billion cubic feet (bcf) of dry gas. The new well, which was spudded on January 18, is located a few hundred meters away from the gas sales pipeline. Full text

Today, OMV, the leading energy group in the European growth belt has been awarded one additional offshore exploration license in Norway. The new license PL 517 is located in the Barents Sea, and will be operated by OMV (Norge) AS in a Joint Venture with Sagex Petroleum Norge AS. Full text

StatoilHydro is currently completing the drilling of two appraisal wells in the Pan/Pandora find south of the Visund field in the North Sea. Developing the find and connecting it to the Visund field is being considered. Located at a water depth of 292 metres the wells will be permanently plugged and abandoned. Full text

Chevron Corporation today announced a new deepwater oil discovery at the Buckskin prospect located in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The block is approximately 190 miles southeast of Houston, Texas, and 44 miles west of Chevron's 2004 Jack discovery, which is also in the Lower Tertiary. Full text

StatoilHydro has completed the drilling of an exploration well in the Fulla prospect, north-east of the Frigg field in the North Sea. Gas and condensate were found. The well has proven recoverable volumes in the region of 6-19 million barrels of oil equivalent. Full text

Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. has announced the discovery of additional hydrocarbons in an exploratory well (Bushwood #1) at the Bushwood Field located in Garden Banks Block 463, offshore Louisiana. The Bushwood #1 well was drilled to 25,271 feet total depth and logged approximately 260 feet of net hydrocarbons, including more than 150 feet of net pay found in the deeper exploratory section. Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:APC) today announced a substantial oil discovery at its Heidelberg prospect in Green Canyon block 859 in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The discovery well encountered more than 200 feet of net oil pay in several high-quality Miocene sands. Full text

StatoilHydro has concluded the drilling of wildcat well 30/8-4 S. The well is about 7 kilometres south of the Tune facility in the Oseberg area.The size of the discovery is between 0.5 and 2.5 million Sm3 of recoverable oil. A successful formation test was conducted. The licensees in the production licence will consider producing the discovery via nearby infrastructure.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted StatoilHydro ASA a permit for a drilling program related to drilling of a wildcat well in production licence 327 B. The well will be drilled from the Transocean Leader drilling facility. The well will be drilled on a prospect called Asterix. Full text
