Lundin Petroleum has successfully completed the first Luno appraisal well 16/1-10 located in production licence PL338, offshore the Norwegian North Sea. The well was drilled to appraise the Luno field discovered in late 2007 with well 16/1-8. The appraisal well has successfully confirmed the extension of the Luno field to the north east. Full text

Petrobras and Repsol announces that the drilling of well 6-BRSA-661-SPS (6-SPS-53), located in shallow Waters in the southern portion of the Santos Basin, State of São Paulo, proved the presence of a thick column of gas in reservoirs above the salt layer. Full text

MPDC Gabon Co. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation, announced on 26th January that it has discovered an oil field in Ebene license, offshore Gabonese Republic. The discovery was named Loche East Marine field and was immediately applied for development and production authorization. Full text

Sterling Resources today announced the successful testing of the Breagh well located on Block 42/13 in the United Kingdom Southern North Sea. The results are expected to show an increase in gross rock volume in excess of 20% compared to previous estimates. Sterling holds a 45% interest and is the operator of the block.

Endeavour International Corporation has announced a successful up-dip appraisal of the Rochelle undeveloped discovery in Block 15/27 of the UK North Sea. The company intends to move quickly towards development of Rochelle. Future appraisal/development options are being actively evaluated. Full text

A concept for the Gudrun field development has now been chosen by StatoilHydro and its partners in the field. Plans are now being drawn up for a new platform in the North Sea. Plans also call for connecting a subsea system on the Sigrun field to the future platform on the Gudrun field. Full text

Noble Energy announced today a natural gas discovery at the Tamar prospect in the Matan license, offshore Israel. The Tamar #1 well, located in approximately 5,500 feet of water, was drilled to a total depth of 16,076 feet to test a subsalt, lower-Miocene structure in the Levantine basin. Full text

The contractor which is providing the JUDPSO has indicated that there will be delays in obtaining the necessary financing for this production facility. Accordingly it is not expected that final project sanction will occur until later in 2009. In the meantime work will focus on seeking cost reductions and identifying third party volumes that can be developed over the Frøy facility. Full text

An appraisal well on the Obesum prospect in the Barents Sea has confirmed the existence of gas, but the discovery is not considered commercial. The drilling was performed by the Polar Pioneer drilling unit in 340 metres of water, some 175 kilometres north/northwest of Hammerfest. Full text
