INPEX today announced that it has made a new gas discovery in the Browse Basin. INPEX Browse and Total E&P Australia acquired the WA-344-P exploration acreage in November 2007 and completed the Mimia-1 well in July 2008. A 72 metre gas column was found and a production test completed recently confirmed the discovery of gas and condensate. Full text

StatoilHydro ASA, operator of Production License 128, has completed drilling of wildcat well 6608/11-6. The well was dry. Water depth is 379 m. The wildcat well was drilled to 1828 metres below the surface of the sea and was terminated in rocks from Early Jurassic (the Åre formation). The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned. StatoilHydro has received consent for exploration drilling in the Barents Sea with the mobile facility Polar Pioneer. The consent applies to drilling of exploration well 7222/11-1, Caurus, which belongs to production licence 228. Full text

Exxon Mobil announced today the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture, which includes its subsidiary, Esso Australia, will invest $1.1 billion to develop more than 270 million oil-equivalent barrels from the Turrum field in the Bass Strait, offshore southeast Australia. The development follows the recent announcement to develop natural gas from the Kipper field, also in the Bass Strait. Full text

Eni has made a new, significant gas discovery in the Sicilian Strait, with the Cassiopea 1 well at a water depth of some 560 metres, about 22 km off the coast of Agrigento.s The Cassiopea field extends across G.R14.AG and G.R13.AG exploration licences, which Eni operates with a 60% stake. Full text

Hess Corporation said today that the Briseis-1 exploration well on Australia's Northwest Shelf discovered natural gas in Jurassic and Triassic sandstones. The well encountered 151 feet (46 meters) of net gas pay, in line with pre-drill estimates. Full text

Revus Energy ASA today confirmed well oil & gas discovery in the eastern part of the Torphins prospect in the central UK North Sea. The well, which spudded on 20th June 2008, was drilled directionally to test sector and penetrated a Paleocene reservoir sandstone section with a gross logged oil & gas column in the region of 9 meters.
