High oil prices have influenced the decision by the Basker/Manta/Gummy (BMG) oil and gas joint venture in Bass Strait to bring forward a $1.23 billion investment in upgrading its production facilities. The BMG project now involves the use of a mini-FPSO and a separate shuttle tanker. Full text
StatoilHydro has confirmed the existence of gas in the Ververis prospect in the Barents Sea, whereas an exploration well in the Stetind prospect in the Norwegian Sea turned out to be dry. This is the 13th discovery on the Norwegian continental shelf that StatoilHydro is involved in this year. Full text
Lundin Petroleum today announced that its Morskaya-1 exploration well in the Lagansky block, situated in the northern Caspian Sea has encountered a major oil accumulation in the Aptian and Neocomian sandstone reservoirs. Minor amounts of gas were encountered in the overlying Albian reservoir. Morskaya-1 has been drilled to a depth of 2082 metres in a water depth of less than two metres. Full text

Endeavour today announced the 6407/8-4A sidetrack well to appraise the Galtvort natural gas discovery encountered a gas column in Middle to Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks. Interpretation of comprehensive well data suggests the gas water contact is at the same level as seen in the adjacent discovery well. Full text
Total announces that it has made a new gas and condensate discovery in the Alwyn Area of the Northern North Sea, close to the Jura field that recently came on stream. The field, to be known as Islay, lies in block 3/15 of the UK sector of the North Sea, some 440 kilometres (275 miles) north-east of Aberdeen, in a water depth of 120 metres Full text
Dana Petroleum said it has made a significant gas discovery with its first exploration well in Egypt. The WEB-1X well is the first drilled by the Dana Petroleum and Gaz de France partnership at the West El Burullus (“WEB”) production sharing contract area within the prolific Nile Delta region, in the Mediterranean Sea offshore Egypt. Eni has successfully drilled an exploration well on the Stones discovery, located in Walker Ridge block 508 approximately 325 kilometers (200 miles) off the Louisiana coast in a water depth of 2300 meters (7500'). The Stones discovery is located near other recent discoveries in deep reservoir sands such as St. Malo (in which Eni participates), Chinook and Cascade. Full text
