Anadarko Petroleum Corporation today announced the Tweneboa-1 discovery well offshore Ghana encountered approximately 70 feet of net pay. The well discovered a light hydrocarbon accumulation in similar-age sands as the nearby, but separate, Jubilee field. Full text

Oil and gas have been encountered by StatoilHydro in the Katla prospect, which lies 11 kilometres south-west of the Oseberg South platform operated by the group in the Norwegian North Sea. The find will probably be developed and produced through a tie-in to one of the existing subsea installations in this part of the North Sea.

Tullow Oil plc announces that the Tweneboa-1 exploration well, drilled in the Deepwater Tano licence offshore Ghana, has discovered a significant highly-pressured light hydrocarbon accumulation. The Tweneboa-1 well was drilled by the Eirik Raude deepwater rig in a water depth of 1,148 metres some 25 kilometres west of the Jubilee Field. Full text

Sonangol and BP Exploration (Angola) Limited today announced the Leda oil discovery in ultra-deepwater Block 31, offshore Angola. This is the seventeenth discovery made by BP in Block 31 and is located in the central northern portion of Block 31, some 415 kilometres north west of Luanda and about 12 kilometres to the south-west of the Marte field. Total announces today that it has signed an agreement with Azerbaijan’s state-owned SOCAR. The exploration, development and production sharing agreement (EDPSA) covers a license on the Absheron offshore block. This block is located in the Caspian Sea, 100 kilometers from Baku, in a water depth of around 500 meters. Full text

OMV announces first oil from Maari, New Zealand’s largest oil field, located 80 km off Taranaki’s south coast, operated by OMV New Zealand in a joint venture with Todd Energy, Horizon Oil International Ltd and Cue Taranaki Pty Ltd. Over its 10-15 year life Maari is expected to produce some 50 mn barrels of oil. Full text

Woodside reports that the Martell-1 exploration well in permit WA-404-P in Western Australia’s Carnarvon Basin has reached a total depth of 3330 metres. Wireline logs indicate a gross gas column of about 110 metres in good quality reservoir sandstones. Full text

Husky Energy Inc today announced that Husky Oil China Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Husky Energy, has completed drilling and testing of the first appraisal well at the Liwan 3-1 field on Block 29/26, South China Sea. The well was drilled and tested in a water depth of 1,345 metres in the Pearl River Mouth Basin on the gas discovery made in 2006 in the Liwan field in the South China Sea. Full text

Dana Gas, the Middle East's first and largest regional private sector natural gas company, has announced another significant gas discovery in one of the company’s concessions in the Egyptian Nile Delta. The Azhar-1 well is set to add up to 100 billion cubic feet (16 million barrels of oil equivalent) to the company’s reserves in Egypt. Full text

Providence Resources P.l.c., the oil and gas exploration and production company, is pleased to confirm that the Aje Field, in OML113, offshore Nigeria has been deemed a Commercial Discovery by the Operating Committee.
