Petrofac get approval to develop Don subsea fields

2008.05.28 - Field Development

Petrofac, the international oil & gas facilities service provider, announces that its Energy Developments division, as operator and on behalf of itself and its co-venturers, has received Field Development Programme approval from the UK Government department of BERR (Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform) for the Don Southwest (Don SW) and West Don fields in the North Sea.

In accordance with the Field Development Programmes, the Northern Producer will initially export oil by offshore tanker loading for approximately six months and then switch to pipeline export via a subsea line to Lundin Petroleum’s Thistle platform and the Brent pipeline system. Terms have now been agreed with Lundin Petroleum for the export service. First oil is expected during the first half of 2009.

Bill Dunnett, executive vice president of Petrofac Energy Developments, said: “Petrofac, on behalf of our Don Partners, is delighted to have reached this important milestone in the project. We now move forward into the offshore development drilling and subsea construction phase.”

Amjad Bseisu, chief executive of Petrofac Energy Developments, added: “The Don project has been a fast track standalone development for Petrofac where its breadth of skills in engineering, operations, and execution are being called upon. The Don fields and their extensions will form a core business area for Energy Developments and its partners for a long time to come.”
