2008.08.07 - Field Development

StatoilHydro ASA, operator of Production License 128, has completed drilling of wildcat well 6608/11-6. The well was dry.

The well is located 15 km northeast of the Norne field in the Norwegian Sea.

The primary exploration target of the well was to prove  petroleum from Middle and Lower Jurassic. The well also had a secondary exploration target in rocks of  Middle Jurassic Age.

The well was dry. The primary target encountered rocks of significant thickness and good reservoir quality. The secondary target encountered rocks of insignificant thickness and poor reservoir quality.

This is exploration well number 21 in Production License 128, which was awarded in the 10B Licensing Round in 1986.

Water depth is 379 m. The wildcat well was drilled to 1828 metres below the surface of the sea and was terminated in rocks from Early Jurassic (the Åre formation). The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

The well was drilled using the drilling facility Ocean Vanguard, which will be heading to the North Sea to drill wildcat well 34/7-33 in Production License 089. StatoilHydro ASA is the operator.
