Trolla wildcat well offshore Norway was dry

2009.09.25 - Field Development

Det norske oljeselskap ASA has as operator, completed drilling operations on wildcat 6609/10-2 (Trolla) in production license 483-S.

The well is located in the Helgeland Basin, about 45 km east of the Norne field and about 132 km west of Vega. The well tested potential hydrocarbon reservoirs of the Middle Jurassic (Boat Group). Reservoir rocks of prognosed thicknesses and quality were encountered, but the well was dry.

This was the first exploration well in production license 483-S. The license was awarded February 26 2008 as part of the 2007 Awards in Predefined Areas licensing round.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2499 metres below sea-level, and was terminated in Red Beds of Late Triassic age. Water depth at well location is 265 meters. Exploration well 6609/10-2 was drilled by the semi submersible drilling rig Songa Delta. The well will be plugged and abandoned, before the rig moves on to production license 375 in the North Sea to drill exploration well 34/4-11 for operator Petro-Canada.
