Aker Kvaerner search for new employees with new methods
"For us, it was simply a question of rolling up our sleeves, getting out there, and recruiting people,” says Communications Vice President Stein Inge Liasjø in Aker Kvaerner. The Aker companies are utilising all resources to fill the 500 plus available positions, this in an already record breaking tight labour market. Skilled workers, engineers and business managers all have the potential to be Aker Kvaerner’s new “nutcrackers”. ”People keep telling us that one of the most important reasons they apply to Aker Kvaerner, is the opportunity to work with technology in world-class projects being executed in the international oil and gas world. This comment has come from both people with technical backgrounds as well as PhDs,” says Liasjø.
At the crack of dawn, in the middle of the busiest morning rush, people at Oslo Central Station were entertained by a group of British dancers who choreographed their own dance to the music of Aker’s award winning “Nutcracker” commercial. Commuters received packages with nuts, reflectors and an invitation to apply for a job with Aker.
More on the hunt for good people
From 20 October until 11 November, Aker Kvaerner together with Aker Drilling, Aker Exploration, Aker Floating Production and Aker Oilfield services, are campaigning together to recruit new employees. More than 500 available positions across many different sectors have to be filled before Christmas.
On national radio, all of Norway can hear the Aker companies using the music from ”The Nutcracker” commercial in the hunt for new people. In 2005 the commercial won Aker the “Gullfisken” award, Norway’s highest recognition for commercial. For the first time in Norway a 3 minute radio commercial is being run – a commercial that contains the catchy music from the “Nutcracker”.
On the Internet the Aker companies have a presence on the busiest sites, in addition to their own recruitment site, www.notteknekker.no where the hundreds of the positions are described.
At airports around the country, the campaign can be seen on large light boards and banners. Posters proclaim that attitude is as important as an individual’s education and experience when seeking a job in an Aker company. The campaign is also on the Express train from Oslo Airport to Oslo City.
In newspapers you see job announcements where not a single job is described. Instead the Aker companies have chosen to focus on displaying some of the world class projects they are involved in.
And finally, even employee’ cars are put to use as display windows for the campaign. Aker Kvaerner employees can send a photo of their car with the campaign sticker on it via their mobile phone (MMS) to compete for a prize.
