European nations to discuss the aftermath of the Russia/Ukraine gas crisis

2009.02.18 - Industry

With the Russia-Ukraine gas supply crisis seemingly at an end as a 10 year agreement was signed today (16/02/2009), other gas importing countries are looking at their suppliers and wondering how to protect themselves should their supply be threatened in a similar way.

Representatives from France, Austria, Denmark, Poland, Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovenia are coming together to discuss and present the difficulties and opportunities that they face when developing and securing their gas supply chain.

Discussions and debates will centre around preventing disruption in gas supplies, achieving flexibility, reducing import dependency, enlarging the portfolio of suppliers and increasing market liquidity.

All presentations and case studies will be centre around practical solutions to the core problems of modern European gas infrastructure.

Attendees will also be visiting the PGNiG Cavern Gas Storage Mogilno in Poland to see how underground gas storage holds several key advantages over other storage methods.

The meeting should result in better understanding of mitigating risk in gas supply across Europe and ensure nations are better prepared for any similar future crises.
