GE Oil & Gas Announces a close cooperation with SPT Group

2009.05.06 - Industry

GE Oil & Gas, a world leading company in oil & gas advanced technology equipment and services, announced today that it has agreed to a close cooperation with SPT Group that offers its global customers enhanced online flow assurance solutions for improved flow regularity over the life of the field.

“The oil and gas industry is increasingly focused on remote operations and digital oilfield solutions,” says Dean Arnison, Controls & Informatics Director, GE Oil & Gas. “This new cooperation between GE Oil & Gas and SPT Group builds on unrivalled expertise in subsea control systems and online flow assurance technology to fulfill a key part of an e-field infrastructure.”

As the world’s oil and gas field developments move to harsher, deeper environments, the need for a more refined insight into the operation of subsea production systems increases. By combining the experience of GE Oil & Gas and SPT Group, advanced solutions can be developed to meet these challenges and optimize production.

This close cooperation means a tighter integration of GE Oil & Gas and SPT Group solutions. Ultimately, GE Oil & Gas and SPT Group aim to develop common user interfaces and new technologies associated with closed loop control and condition monitoring to further improve the efficiency of subsea operations.

“This cooperation framework will allow for online flow assurance to be integrated into our new SmartCenter™ facility, in addition to the Remote Monitoring & Diagnostics capability at our controls systems services hub in Nailsea,” Arnison said.

The GE Oil & Gas SmartCenter is a remote access data hub and a key tool to enable life of field support services. Located in Nailsea, UK, this state of the art technology center will offer remote assistance and services to the field at every stage of development.

SPT Group’s expertise in providing online flow assurance solutions based on OLGA® is well established. “Our aim is to implement a standard way of using OLGA online which can be delivered through selected partners. The cooperation with GE Oil & Gas is a great stride towards achieving this ambition,” says Tom Even Mortensen, CEO SPT Group. “Developing our partners’ capabilities of integrating OLGA-based simulators and streamlining the technology towards online use yields confidence in the deliveries and more efficient deployment.”
