Hydro Group targets Asia Pacific for growth
Hydro Group, who established a small Perth office in 2002 in order to develop business opportunities in the Asia Pacific region, today said that sales for the region are growing at 10-15% per year and across all target industry sectors, so are not reliant on oil & gas alone.
Mark Harris, Hydro Group Asia Pacific sales manager, who has headed up the Perth office for the last 4 years, said: “Being situated in Perth gives me a strategic base from which to travel to all of our Asia Pacific target countries including: New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, China and India.
“We’ve had great support over the years from Scottish Development International and now in 2008 we are graduating to the next level of development with bigger office space. We now also have many established relationships with partners and customers in our target countries, who we actively encourage to visit the Aberdeen head office, which has worked really well for cementing relations between our Scottish team and international contacts.”
Recent major contract highlights, which total over £500,000, for Hydro Group’s Asia Pacific operation include projects for Talisman Malaysia South Angsi Field, the Defence Material Organisation and Divex Asia Pacific.
“Moving forward, our new, bigger office in Perth will allow us to make a number of new appointments within the next year. However, I think the key is to keep it simple and focussed, as I’ve seen too many UK companies come into Perth and commit to huge overheads from the word go, without really understanding the market.” said Mr Harris.
Hydro Group plc employs a total of 70 staff and operates on a global scale, the group target turnover is £6million for 2009. The company is made up of Hydro Bond Engineering and Hydrocable Systems Ltd, and was originally formed in 1982 by a team of experienced engineers. It is now a major national and international supplier of harsh environment engineered products with a portfolio of blue chip clients, major operators and the Ministry of Defence.
