GE Oil & Gas Wins ExxonMobil Kizomba Satellites Subsea Production Equipment Contract

2009.09.08 - Subsea Headlines

GE Oil & Gas, a world leading company in oil & gas advanced technology equipment and services, has today announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Ltd. (EEAL), a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation, with subsea production equipment for Kizomba Satellites, a new deepwater oil production project off the coast of West Africa.

Under the terms of the contract, GE will supply a range of subsea equipment, including the latest deepwater tree connectors, to drive oil production at the Kizomba Satellites development, located in Block 15 in the southeastern Atlantic Ocean.

In line with GE's localization strategy, a high proportion of equipment will be produced and assembled in Angola where GE Oil & Gas has significantly invested in a local manufacturing and services facility, a local learning center and corporate offices located at Luanda, Angola.

Manuel Terranova, senior vice president, Subsea Product Platform, GE Oil & Gas said: "We're delighted to have been awarded this important contract for ExxonMobil which builds on the excellent performance achieved on Kizomba C with a superb global team supported by a very strong Angola base. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with ExxonMobil with an equally successful development of the Kizomba Satellites project."

Sam Aquillano, vice president, GE and COO, Drilling & Production, GE Oil & Gas added: "The GE Oil & Gas and ExxonMobil partnership continues to grow, recognizing our shared approach to developing Africa's offshore resources to support the world's pressing energy demands in a way that also provides sustainable local economic development in Angola and throughout the continent."

The new Kizomba Satellites offshore project links to the existing Kizomba A and B field developments. According to the agreement GE will supply: subsea trees; manifolds; jumpers and connectors; controls equipment; umbilical termination assemblies (UTAs); subsea distribution units (SDUs); and flying leads. Topside equipment will be installed at EEAL's Kizomba A and B floating production, storage and offloading vessels (FPSOs).

Compared to its work on previous Block 15 fields, GE will use an even greater amount of Angolan-based manufacturing capacity on the Kizomba Satellites, including the fabrication of jumpers, manifolds, piles and mudmats. Also, a majority of the trees and jumper connectors will be assembled in Angola.
