Subsea connector specialist First Subsea has set a new depth record for ball and taper mooring connectors. Ballgrab connectors have been successfully installed at a depth of 8,637 ft (2,632 m) to moor the Truss Spar for Shell’s Perdido Development project in the Gulf of Mexico, 200 miles south of Freeport (Texas) in 8,000 feet (2,440m) of water. Global solutions provider of optical and electrical products in the subsea technology industry, Hydro Group, is set to secure £150,000 of projects in Norway. Sperry Drilling Services, a brand of Halliburton's Drilling and Evaluation Division, and TOTAL have signed a project development agreement to jointly develop an ultra-high-temperature measurement-while-drilling system capable of operating in temperatures of up to 450°F (230°C). Full text
Expenditure on subsea processing systems is increasing rapidly and is expected to total some $5.1 billion over the 2008-2017 period. The prospect of improved recovery and production is driving operator uptake. so much so that in 2009 we could see as many seabed pumps installed as were installed in total over the 2003-2007 period. The Shell-operated Perdido Spar has arrived in the the Gulf of Mexico ultra deepwaters and is now being secured to the seafloor in about 8,000 feet of water. Perdido will be the deepest oil development in the world to date, the deepest drilling and production platform in the world and have the deepest subsea well in the world. Full text
Exxon said today that it has started production from the Saxi and Batuque fields as part of the development progression of the Kizomba C project. Kizomba C Fields Expected to Produce 200,000 Barrels of Oil Per Day. Combined with a third Kizomba C field, Mondo, which came on stream in January, the project is anticipated to reach a total production rate of 200,000 barrels of oil per day later this year. Full text
The organization which champions the UK's £4 billion subsea oil and gas industry has appointed Alistair Birnie to the post of Chief Executive. The industry stalwart, who is currently global head of technology for subsea controls with Aker Solutions and Chairman of the SUT in Aberdeen, will take up his new post on October 1, 2008. Full text
