Chevron has just announced that it will proceed with the development of the Gorgon natural gas project offshore Western Australia. Development proposals for the project were approved today by the Western Australian State Premier and production licenses were granted by the Australian Minister for Resources and Energy. Full text
New drilling and well technology developed by StatoilHydro and FMC Technologies will improve the oil recovery from subsea fields. The technology has now been successfully tested on the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea.One of the measures to extract more oil from the fields is to drill more wells, but drilling subsea wells is expensive. BP announced today a giant oil discovery at its Tiber Prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Tiber well was drilled to a total depth of approximately 35,055 feet (10,685 metres) making it one of the deepest wells ever drilled by the oil and gas industry. Full text

Nexans has secured a frame agreement with BP Exploration & Production Inc. for deep water umbilical projects in the Gulf of Mexico that could be worth as much as $300 million in total.
