The world’s deepest hot tap operations on a pressurised pipeline have been performed on the Ormen Lange field in the Norwegian Sea during early August. The two hot taps were monitored and controlled from the surface, assisted by 100 sensors, 23 cameras and 18 subsea computers deployed on the seabed to transmit data via heavy duty cables. Full text

Chevron Corporation announced today that it had made a successful discovery in Block 0 located adjacent to the Cabinda coastline in Angola. The 79-3XST1 discovery well encountered over 225 feet of net hydrocarbon pay in the Upper Pinda formation. Full text

Subsea 7 has opened its new pipeline fabrication spoolbase in Port Isabel, Texas. The Spoolbase was officially opened by Joe Vega, the Mayor of Port Isabel and Ian Cobban, Vice President - North America for Subsea 7, at a ceremony held on the base. Full text

Zenon, a Robotics manufacturer and developer based in Athens, Greece, has developed a new prototype robot crawler for deployment of the inspection technology on man made underwater structure. Specifically the robot has been developed to crawl along the external surface of flexible risers. It moves along and around the riser using an inch-worm type motion. Full text

An EU collaboration between EU companies and research organisations, known as FlexiRiserTest, has been working to produce an underwater radiography inspection prototype system suitable for the inspection of flexible risers. It is believed to be the first time ever that a marinised digital radiograph flat panel detector for underwater inspection has been reported. Full text

Noble Energy, Inc. announced today that the Plan of Development for the Aseng oil project has been sanctioned by the Company, its partners, and the Ministry of Mines, Industry, and Energy of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. Noble Energy serves as technical operator of the development with a 40 percent working interest. Full text

Lundin Petroleum AB today announced that its independent reserves auditor Gaffney, Cline and Associates (GCA) has assigned 95 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) of gross Proven and Probable (2P) reserves to the Luno field located in production licence PL338, offshore the Norwegian North Sea. Oceaneering International, Inc. successfully installed, tested and commissioned two blowout preventer (BOP) control systems in Q2 2009. The company designs and manufactures premium deepwater BOP control systems for installation in depths to 12,000 fsw. A third BOP control system is due for Q3 2009 installation on a new build rig. Sonangol and Maersk Oil Angola AS (operator), have successfully completed drilling of the Chissonga-1 exploration well with positive results. The Chissonga-1 well is located in the western sector of Block 16 in 1,230 metres water depth, some 315 kilometres northwest of Luanda, and was drilled to a total depth of 4,725 metres using the Larsen Deep Venture drillship.
