Tritech, Xipower partnership to develop subsea battery packs

2008.09.30 - Subsea Headlines

Tritech, the industry leader in the provision of sensors and tools for ROV and AUV markets has today announced a partnership agreement with Xipower, a cutting edge developer of energy management and monitoring technologies.

Tritech International Ltd has seen continuous growth over the last year with the acquisition of Sonar Research and Development (SRD) now firmly established as part of the Tritech Group. As the company expands in numbers it also maintains its strength as a market leader in innovative subsea technology.

The focus of the Tritech, Xipower partnership will be to develop a range of lithium polymer subsea battery packs for a wide range of applications including very deep water power supplies.

The battery power needs of the subsea industry are both complex and challenging. This collaborative technology will be able to address these needs by offering a technology that is lighter, more compact, more powerful and more efficient than conventional means.

The combined strengths of the partners will result in the international distribution and support of a wide range of deep sea lithium polymer batteries for several subsea markets.

Dick Wright, Tritech Technical Director said;

"This is an exciting new technology with a wide range of applications both for fixed installations and AUV's. The potential improvements in power to weight ratio and battery life will open up new opportunities for the use of electrical power in the subsea environment."

Gary Macdonald, CEO of Xipower stated;

"Xipower is delighted to partner with Tritech to jointly develop a range of subsea battery products. Tritech’s subsea expertise coupled with Xipower’s technology will result in a superior product that will offer the industry major benefits in power source functionality and maximise deployment times."
