Triton XLX Enhances Features with BlueView and SeeTrack CoPilot

2010.06.17 - Subsea Headlines

Perry Slingsby Systems of the Triton Group, the leading supplier of deepwater work-class ROV and tooling solutions, in partnership with SeeByte, the global leader in creating smart software for unmanned underwater vehicles, and BlueView Technologies, the leading provider of state-of-the-art compact imaging sonar solutions, have recently carried out the integration and demonstration of SeeTrack CoPilot with a Triton XLX ROV equipped with a BlueView P900 sonar.

Through the demonstration the ROV was made to follow waypoints in a chart of Perry Slingsby System’s Florida’s water tank using the SeeTrack CoPilot interface. The ROV would travel to each waypoint in sequence and the operator was able to start and stop the mission and select new waypoints at the touch of a button. At the same time the BlueView sonar data was overlaid on the chart in real time so that it was easy to contrast the sensor information with the chart data. In the demonstration the ROV was also made to orbit and transit relative to a vertical pipe that was being observed by the BlueView sonar using SeeTrack CoPilot’s automatic control algorithms.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for our customers. We have been able to demonstrate a significant new capability. We know the importance of offering innovative solutions to existing challenges and we are now in a position to offer a package that will keep our systems at the forefront of innovation. Our customers will be able to benefit from new features such as the ability to plan a survey over charts and command the ROV through and intuitive point-and-click interface. But importantly the combination of SeeTrack CoPilot and BlueView sonars will help them tackle low visibility and complex environments with ease,” said Rory Satterfield Vice President of the Triton Group’s Products Division.

Jon Wood Vice President of SeeByte’s US Operations stated, “Thanks to this partnership we are able to offer Triton XLX users our standard SeeTrack CoPilot offering but with the BlueView sonar we also offer the ability to lock onto structures, such as risers, and keep station relative to them. Our interface makes inspections easy and efficient. Touch-down monitoring to seabed-to-surface riser inspections can be carried out at the touch of a button as the system tracks the target on the sonar screen and controls the ROV, allowing it to automatically keep-station relative to the target”
Lee Thompson BlueView’s CEO, CTO and founder added, “We have been working with SeeByte for a number of years demonstrating state-of-the-art solutions for station-keeping of ROVs and AUVs.

Ourproducts have been used before to carry out operations in low visibility conditions and our customers have been very satisfied with our results. This new offering with the Triton XLX offers the most advanced sonar based station-keeping solution to the market and we are excited to be a part of this.”
