Aker Solutions celebrates subsea project record-breaking 'first oil'

2008.09.22 - Projects

Aker Solutions is celebrating production of first oil from Reliance Industries' MA-D6 field, located in the Bay of Bengal offshore India. The record breaking project, which is a 100 per cent Aker field development, produced first oil at 17 September.

The Aker family of companies has been responsible for the entire MA-D6 field development. Aker Solutions has manufactured and delivered a complete subsea production system and managed the installation of the subsea equipment. Aker Floating Production has converted and delivered the FPSO Dhirubai 1, while Aker Solutions has also delivered process equipment and a mooring and offloading system to the FPSO.

Both the subsea system and FPSO have been delivered in less than 16 months after being awarded the contracts by Reliance Industries Ltd. Furthermore, the entire field development - from its first discovery to production of first oil - has happened in the space of less than two-and-a-half years. The latter is a testament to the fast-track approach Reliance Industries has taken to this project.

"Never has such a complex deepwater project been delivered quicker from a supplier standpoint, and never has a field been developed that quickly", says Raymond Carlsen, executive vice president, Aker Solutions. "We are proud to have worked with Reliance Industries on this record breaking, fast-track project. We are also proud to be part of an Aker-family that has shown its unique capabilities by delivering this project in record time."

Subsea trees for the project have been manufactured at Aker Solutions' facilities in Port Klang, Malaysia, and Tranby, Norway. Subsea control systems were manufactured in Aberdeen, UK, and umbilicals in Moss, Norway. Process equipment and mooring and offloading system for the FPSO was delivered by Aker Solutions subsidiaries Aker Process Systems AS and Aker Pusnes AS respectively.
