BP Skarv FPSO hull get positiv feedback after PSA audit
The audit was conducted at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) shipyard in Geoje, South Korea, as a follow-up of the audit of the Skarv project 20 – 21 May. This activity focused on interface coordination between systems in the process facility and hull. The application of standards and norms was also a central topic.
Special emphasis was placed on the following areas during the audit:
- Safety strategies and design loads
- Fire-fighting
- Passive fire protection
- Safety instrumented systems with special focus on fire and gas detection
- Design of rooms for electrical equipment.
The PSA shall also contribute to reducing the risk level in the petroleum industry by follow-up of the players to ensure that they facilitate technical and operational integrity. Technical safety elements constitute central parts of the technical barriers, and it is important to safeguard these to maintain an acceptable risk level.
The purpose of the audit was to verify that BP Norge AS’ engineering of the Skarv facility complies with the regulatory requirements for the area comprised by the activity.
Our general impression is that thorough and excellent work has been performed so far in engineering the Skarv hull. One non-conformity related to the regulations was identified. Both the operator’s and SHI’s representatives demonstrated ample understanding of what the regulatory requirements entailed within the disciplines comprised by the audit.
