First time for Aker Solutions' environmental-friendly offloading system

2008.08.27 - Projects

Aker Solutions has designed and delivered an offshore loading system to the Varandey field in the Barents Sea. The system has been installed on the FOIROT (Fixed Offshore Ice-Resistant Off-Loading Terminal), allowing for the offshore transfer of crude oil onto highly sophisticated ice-classed shuttle tankers designed for transporting oil in the sensitive arctic environment.

"We have been doing business with Russia for over 30 years, and further development of our innovative solutions will ensure that we maintain our position as the dominant partner in the field of offshore oil transfer for Russian oil companies and ship owners", says Leif Haukom, President of Aker Pusnes AS.

For decades, Aker Solutions has delivered offshore loading systems, i.e. bow loading and offloading for transfer of crude oil from a production unit to a shuttle tanker, for the North Sea, an environment which is harsh but sub-arctic.  These specialised loading systems are developed for arctic conditions and protection of the extremely sensitive arctic environment which has the highest environmental standards namely, zero spills and zero incidents.

Both the shuttle tanker "Vasily Dinkov" and the FOIROT terminal are equipped with the latest Aker Solutions bow and offloading systems which are designed for arctic conditions. The system also includes additional safety features for the protection of the extremely sensitive arctic environment. Aker Solutions has thus far received orders for bow loading systems for 12 arctic shuttle tankers.

The FOIROT is owned by Russian oil company, Lukoil, who holds the operator license for the Varandey Field, and the shuttle tanker "Vasily Dinkov" is owned by Sovcomflot.
