Production on the Kristin field in the Norwegian Sea has now been shut down and the platform staff is being temporarily reduced until the lifeboat systems have been tested and found to be functional. Lifeboats of the same FF1000S type are also installed on the Veslefrikk B platform in the North Sea. A test carried out on Wednesday revealed a faulty release mechanism on two of the three lifeboats on Veslefrikk B. Full text

Heerema Marine Contractor’s (HMC) crane vessel Thialf left the Tombua Landana site in Angola after a successful installation. The Tombua Landana project for DSME/Chevron comprised the installation of a Compliant Tower and Topsides in a water depth of 370 m in Block 14, 50 miles offshore Cabinda. Full text

Apache Corporation said that it has signed a contract to supply natural gas from the Reindeer Field to CITIC Pacific's Sino Iron project in Western Australia. The gas will be supplied through a new, 65-mile offshore pipeline and a new onshore sales gas processing facility at Devil Creek, about 28 miles southwest of Dampier, with capacity to process 210 million cubic feet of gas per day. The offshore installation contractor for the Van Gogh project, Acergy Australia pty ltd., contracted Jumbo to take care of the transportation of the DTM buoy from Singapore to the Exmouth gulf, delivering subsea equipment to the subsea installation vessel mv Toisa Proteus, and demobilizing equipment. First oil from the Van Gogh field is expected march 2009. Full text

The Transocean Searcher drilling rig has started drilling the first of a total of 13 production wells on the Gjøa field in the North Sea. Gjøa is located in the Sogn area. With this development, a new part of the North Sea is being opened for oil and gas production. The Vega and Vega South satellites will be developed with subsea installations and tied back to Gjøa. On Sunday, a large manifold outfitted with utility gear was lifted and mated with the third Ormen Lange subsea template at Grenland Group in Tønsberg. The enormous 44 m x 33 m x 15 m subsea station set for installation on the Ormen Lange gas field at a sea depth of 900 meters has been built at Grenland Group’s yard. Full text

BP today announced that it has successfully started production from the third and fourth wells at the Thunder Horse field with production now in excess of 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed), signalling the completion of commissioning and commencement of full operation.
