Chevron Deploys a Second Ultra-Deepwater Drillship

Chevron U.S.A. Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX), today announced that it has commenced operations on the Discoverer Inspiration, an ultra-deepwater drillship, in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The vessel has the capability to drill wells in 12,000 feet (3,650 meters) of water to a total depth of 40,000 feet (12,200 meters). Full text

SOFEC, Inc. to use First Subsea Connectors to Moor Block 31 FPSO

Deepwater mooring specialist, First Subsea, has been awarded a contract by SOFEC Inc to supply the mooring connectors for the PSVM (Plutao, Saturno, Venus and Marte) FPSO to be installed in the ultra deepwater development in Block 31 offshore Angola. The FPSO is an external turret-moored FPSO in 2,000 meters (6,562 feet) of water. The double-hulled PSVM FPSO will have production capacity of 157,000 barrels per day. Full text

BISSO MARINE, a premier provider of energy and maritime support services, successfully buried a pipeline 16 feet below the hardened seabed of the Gulf of Mexico. Working in 54 feet of water, the crew of the DLB BIG CHIEF installed a hot tap and used one of the company’s three 2,700 gpm@1,150 psi Super Jet Pump Systems to bury 13,893 feet of pipeline 10 miles off Galveston Island. BJ Services Company recently completed a major subsea pipeline precommissioning operation for Saipem S.A. in Nigeria on the Akpo development, one of the largest deepwater developments ever undertaken. The Akpo field lies in the Oil Mining Lease (OML) 130 Block approximately 124 miles (200 km) south of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, with water depths of 3,936 ft to 4,593 ft (1200 m to 1400 m.) Full text

Eni starts production of the Longhorn gas field, located in the Gulf of Mexico

Eni has started production from its Longhorn gas field located in the Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi Canyon Blocks 502/546, 60 miles off the Louisiana coast. The Longhorn project achieved its first production in just over 3 years from the initial exploration discovery made in July 2006, and was completed in less than 2 years from the sanction. Full text
