Offshore accommodation specialist, HB Rentals, a Superior Energy Services company, recently completed a project to design, install and commission a laboratory complex onboard a drill ship. The $1.1 million project was constructed in Shanghai, China and South Korea and managed from HB Rentals’ Eastern Hemisphere headquarters in Aberdeen. Full text

Exxon Mobil Corporation announced today that its subsidiary, Exxon Neftegas Limited, has successfully drilled the world’s longest extended-reach well at the Odoptu field, offshore far east Russia. Exxon Neftegas is the operator of the Sakhalin-1 Project on behalf of an international consortium. Full text

Work is nearing completion on a six figure pioneering underwater tool which is to be exhibited at next month’s Subsea 2011 event in Aberdeen. After five years of development and investment of £500,000, Ecosse Subsea Systems’ SCAR specialist trenching plough is generating considerable interest from around the world with work currently being tendered for in the North Sea, Brazil and India. EdgeTech (an affiliate of ORE Offshore) delivered two highly advanced Deep Tow systems in the last quarter of 2010. The EdgeTech 2400 Deep Tow systems provide high-resolution deep-sea surveys, using co-registered side scan sonar and sub-bottom imagery. Full text

One of the latest renewable energy sources currently being investigated for future large scale commercial deployment is tidal energy that exploits the natural ebb and flow of coastal tidal waters. As with other energy sources offshore, innovations to harness tidal forces often throw up additional operational difficulties particularly to do with positioning of the devices on the ocean floor and their connections to shore. Work has begun in Peterhead on a pioneering underwater tool developed by Aberdeen-based Ecosse Subsea Systems.
Ecosse Subsea Systems was recently awarded a £30,000 Scottish Enterprise grant to assist in the research and development of SCAR, a specialist trenching plough, and fabrication is now underway at Marine Developments Ltd and Dales Engineering Services Ltd in Peterhead. Full text

NCS Survey, of Aberdeen, successfully completed a major survey contract recently for Saipem S.p.A. for pipelay support during the inshore phase of the Nord Stream Pipeline Project, two gas pipelines linking Russia with the European Union via the Baltic Sea. Full text

First deliveries of the CDL TOGS-NAV have been received by SMD at their state of the art facility in Wallsend, England. The first 2 systems were delivered in October on an accelerated schedule as part of a major contract awarded to CDL earlier this year. Full text

The Chevron-operated Gendalo-Gehem project is located in the Makassar Strait offshore East Kalimantan in water depths of approximately 6,000 feet. The project will include two separate hub developments, each with its own floating production unit (FPU), subsea drill centers, export gas and condensate pipelines and an onshore receiving facility.
