BISSO MARINE, a premier provider of energy and maritime support services, successfully buried a pipeline 16 feet below the hardened seabed of the Gulf of Mexico. Working in 54 feet of water, the crew of the DLB BIG CHIEF installed a hot tap and used one of the company’s three 2,700 gpm@1,150 psi Super Jet Pump Systems to bury 13,893 feet of pipeline 10 miles off Galveston Island. The fire on Seadrill's West Atlas mobile offshore drilling unit and PTTEPA's Montara wellhead platform in the Timor Sea was extinguished on 3 November 2009, following a successful operation by Seadrill's West Triton mobile drilling unit to intercept and kill a leaking well. Full text

BJ Services Company recently completed a major subsea pipeline precommissioning operation for Saipem S.A. in Nigeria on the Akpo development, one of the largest deepwater developments ever undertaken. The Akpo field lies in the Oil Mining Lease (OML) 130 Block approximately 124 miles (200 km) south of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, with water depths of 3,936 ft to 4,593 ft (1200 m to 1400 m.) Full text

Eni has started production from its Longhorn gas field located in the Gulf of Mexico, Mississippi Canyon Blocks 502/546, 60 miles off the Louisiana coast. The Longhorn project achieved its first production in just over 3 years from the initial exploration discovery made in July 2006, and was completed in less than 2 years from the sanction. Full text

Work on a development solution for the Luva find, which lies in 1,300 metres of water in the Norwegian Sea and 300 kilometres from land, is to be continued by operator StatoilHydro. Following the completion of a feasibility study, the licensees have resolved to spend almost two years considering possible approaches to bringing the discovery on stream. Full text

Today TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company (TGS) confirmed the start up of its next phase of regional multi-client 3D seismic acquisition in offshore Liberia. The new two-thousand square kilometer 3D program expands the existing 9,000 square kilometers of 3D coverage that TGS initiated in late 2008. The latest Liberia phase will be recorded with long offset acquisition and will incorporate state of the art Prestack Time and PreStack Depth data processing. Full text

BJ Services Company announced that it has successfully installed the first InjectSafe™ chemical injection system with DynaCoil™ capillary injection strings offshore in two wells in Europe. Installation of the InjectSafe and DynaCoil systems allowed BJ to inject foaming agent directly downhole through the capillary string, without compromising the integrity of the surface-controlled subsurface safety valve (SCSSV). InterMoor Inc., an Acteon company, has completed its sixth job in the Gulf of Mexico using its recently enhanced Scimitar Abrasive Cutting Tool. InterMoor’s Scimitar Abrasive Cutting Tool is the only tool of its kind where the abrasive is introduced at the cutting head versus a slurry mix (abrasive mixed at the high pressure pump).
