Chevron U.S.A. Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX), today announced that it has commenced operations on the Discoverer Inspiration, an ultra-deepwater drillship, in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The vessel has the capability to drill wells in 12,000 feet (3,650 meters) of water to a total depth of 40,000 feet (12,200 meters). Full text
First oil production has commenced ahead of schedule from the BHP Billiton operated Pyrenees project, offshore Western Australia. The full project involves 13 subsea wells, an extensive subsea gathering system and a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility, with production capacity of approximately 96,000 barrels of oil and gas reinjection capacity of 60 million cubic feet of gas per day (100 per cent basis). Apache Corporation today announced that oil production has commenced at the Van Gogh development in Production License WA-35-L in the Exmouth Basin, offshore Western Australia. Full text
AGR Petroleum Services (AGR) will begin a significant drilling campaign, valued at more than £2 million, off the Falklands Islands this month on behalf of two operators. The company, which is one of the largest independent well management firms in the world, has been contracted by Desire Petroleum and Rockhopper Exploration Plc to provide logistical support and undertake a six well drilling programme in the North Falklands Basin. Seismic services provider Spectrum has accelerated its preparations to collect seismic data in the U.S waters of the Atlantic Ocean in response to the recent announcement by the Department of the Interior to begin the environmental analysis of geological and geophysical activities off the east coast. During the weekend, Aker Spitsbergen left Norway's Klosterfjorden in Sunnhordland community, for field deployment in the Norwegian Sea. The advanced drilling rig arrived on site Monday morning, ready for drilling and well operations at the Halten Nordland region, where Statoil is the operator. Full text
The field has been shut down since 31 August 2009, after a routine inspection revealed cracks in a water buffer tank at the Siri platform. A temporary solution involving a metal frame that stabilizes the tank is now in place. With Siri back in production, the production from the satellite fields Nini and Cecilie can also be resumed. The recently completed Nini East development will also start production shortly. Full text
Aker Barents commenced drilling operations for Det norske oljeselskap ASA on well 25/1-11 Storklakken in PL 460 on 31.December. The aim of these operations is to discover oil that can be tied back to a future installation on the Frøy field, and thus improve Frøy project economics. The rig has now completed the top section of the well and will go to shore too assemble six hydraulic cylinders that during Christmas was dismantled and sent for repair. Full text
