New Product to Extend Life of Subsea Assets

2011.02.15 - Technology

Technical integrity and asset assurance expert iicorr, with offices in Aberdeen and Perth, Australia, has launched a new product to market that will extend the life of offshore applications through Cathodic Protection (CP) technology.

Through its parent company Stork Technical Services, iicorr and its specialist Subsea division, Subspection, have developed an innovative new design of anode that can be readily field deployed and withstand the demands of the offshore environment.  This alternative solution provides a means to replace depleted or damaged systems without the need for more costly dry dock or diving and ROV intervention.

SODA-node (Self Orienting Directional Anode) has been developed for offshore applications such as FPSO’s, FSO’s and other similar structures in seawater.

Gordon McKinnell, Subspection general manager, said: “SODA-node is an excellent addition to the range of CP services we provide for our customer base who are concerned with structural integrity. Our R&D is focused on technology that can extend the life of our clients’ assets with specific focus on designing and developing products for the Subsea sector.

“Our CP systems have been delivering solutions to the military, merchant, marine and ports and harbours markets as well as oil and gas specialist fleets for a number of years. Our technology resulted in a £3million saving for one harbour quay customer by protecting it against Accelerated Low Water Corrosion (ALWC).”

iicorr and Subspection are strongly performing divisions of parent company Stork Technical Services.  Headquartered in Aberdeen, there are operational offices in Baku, Kuala Lumpur, Perth, Australia and Houston.   The firm is a specialist technology company in integrity, inspection and corrosion, providing consultancy, management, engineering and operational support in the oil and gas, process, utilities and marine industry sectors.
