Next-generation slimline tension rings from Claxton

2009.08.27 - Technology

Claxton, an Acteon company, has launched a next-generation, slimline riser tension ring to complement its already broad tensioning and riser product offer.

The company, which has long been a leader in tensioning products, invented the now-standard positive-grip tension ring and pioneered the original slimline version: an innovation that saves clients significant time by enabling a tension ring to be run directly through the rig’s rotary table.

The new ring has multiple enhancements compared with the original slimline design that have reduced the number of parts and the overall weight. These improvements significantly improve handling and reduce installation time.

Dannie Claxton, technical director, Claxton, said, “We have a long-standing reputation for our tensioning equipment, risers and tooling. We are constantly evaluating products to find additional value for our clients, and this is clearly demonstrated by our continuing leadership in tension rings.

“I am sure our clients will agree that we have really improved our overall tensioning product range and that the new rings are a testament to the unique mix of skills we have in our business.”

The new rings fit all standard conductor sizes and are fully certified for tensions up to 300 te.

Claxton also holds one of the largest stocks of drilling risers in Europe, and maintains a comprehensive inventory of tension systems, riser tooling and ancillary equipment, much of which is available for rapid call-off. As part of Acteon’s wider conductors, risers and pipelines offer, the business delivers a highly responsive service to clients across the globe.
