Oceaneering International, Inc. and alliance partner Superior Energy Services used the Subsea Intervention Lubricator System (SILS) for Gulf of Mexico well intervention in late 2007. The system successfully closed and isolated a depleted lower zone and opened a productive upper zone in a subsea well for an independent operator. The SILS is designed to perform cost-effective, safe, deepwater wireline based subsea well interventions, including plug and abandonment (P/A) operations, in water depths to 10,000 fsw without the need for a drilling rig and workover riser.
Plans for a 2008 SILS campaign combining P/As and other well intervention work are in progress. The campaign will create scheduling synergies and reduce costs for individual operators with project work of this type to perform.
