EMGS wins patent dispute launched by Schlumberger

Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (EMGS) today reported that the Court of Appeal in London has ruled in favor of EMGS in a patent dispute launched by Schlumberger, where Schlumberger sought to invalidate two of EMGS's basic method patents. Today's decision overturns a ruling by the High Court in London handed down on 19 January 2009. Consequently, the two method patents are confirmed valid in the UK. Full text

BJ Services Cements World’s Longest Solid Expandable Tubular Liner

BJ Services Company recently set a world record for cementing the longest solid expandable tubular liner for an operator in the Gulf of Mexico. The 6,935-ft (pre-expansion length) 7 5/8-in. liner was set and successfully cemented with a shoe depth below 20,000 ft (6000 m). BJ used a specially formulated XtremeSet™ cement slurry system to overcome challenges with isolating the deep wellbore section, including bottomhole static temperatures of 368°F (187°C). Full text

TDW Offshore Services AS announced that it has successfully completed an innovative low pressure isolation operation on an export pipeline riser in the North Sea. In 2007, a passing vessel collided with the southeast face of a satellite platform jacket, damaging the 12-inch export riser. Production from the platform was immediately shut-in via the emergency shutdown valves, leaving the pressure in the pipeline at approximately 4 barg. Full text
