Roxar announce breakthrough in subsea flow measurement

2008.09.01 - Technology

Roxar ASA (Oslo Børs: ROX) today announced the launch of two new products designed to measure the mass flow rates of fluids or gas in subsea production and injection wells – the Roxar subsea Singlephase meter and the Roxar subsea Singlephase sensor.

The addition of these products to the Roxar portfolio is significant as it exemplifies Roxar’s willingness and ability to react quickly to the flow assurance needs of the offshore oil and gas market, and also marks the first release of new measurement technology following the merger of Roxar ASA and CorrOcean ASA in July 2007.

The new Roxar subsea Singlephase meter (subsea SPM) is a breakthrough in subsea flow measurement. By taking advantage of Roxar’s well-proven DualQ downhole pressure measurement technology, the subsea SPM measures both absolute and differential pressures across a venturi, eliminating the problems associated with traditional DP cell measurement. For subsea operators, this provides a broad range of advantages, such as high accuracy, proven reliability, extreme pressure tolerance and simple subsea installation.

The Roxar subsea Singlephase sensor (subsea SPS) was developed in response to operator requests for an effective and low-cost alternative to venturi meters. Based on Roxar’s Force technology, the subsea SPS measures the deflection of an intrusive probe caused by the flowing media. The measurement output from the subsea SPS is intended to enhance or replace traditional calculations based on choke settings.

Said Roxar CEO, Gunnar Hviding:

“We always knew that Roxar and CorrOcean would gain tremendous advantages in joining forces - in the development of a stronger platform for future product development and in the cross-pollination of ideas from a broader knowledge base.”

“The launch of the Roxar subsea Singlephase meter and the Roxar subsea Singlephase sensor today is a manifestation of this. With these products, Roxar extends it’s global leadership in Subsea metering.”

“However, these developments are more important for the industry, than for Roxar. We see that the greatest value to be extracted is on the field level, even more than on individual wells. Roxar offers today a full range of sensors and software, measuring production and injection rates as well as reservoir pressure. This information allows operators to gain a much better understanding of and control over their entire reservoir.”

Roxar ASA is an international technology solutions provider to the upstream oil and gas industry. The company creates value for its customers with innovative and professionally delivered solutions that increase performance from oil and gas reservoirs and allow the operator to make better decisions with the maximum amount of information.
