Tentec takes the Complexity out of Bolt Tightening Calculations

2011.02.13 - Technology

The renowned CTST range of topside bolt tensioning tools from UK manufacturer, Tentec, has been further enhanced with the addition of new, free software that enables users to manage and rapidly calculate bolt tensioner pressures. This clever software package saves engineers both time and money by enabling documentation for multiple bolted joint projects to be created quickly and efficiently and has the additional advantage that engineers can avoid the possibility of error that often occur with manual calculations.

This new package automatically creates customised bolted joint documentation that contains valuable data for engineers, both saving time and avoiding the possibility of error with manual calculations. The Tentec Bolt Load Software will recommend which Tentec tensioning tool to use and the optimum bolt length, as well as the residual bolt stress and torque values, together with variable lubrication factors. The software package contains data for the following standard bolted flanges: ANSI B16.5, API 6A, API 17SV and Norsok L-005.
For ease of interpretation, a graphical representation of predicted bolt stress path over time is calculated and bolt tensioning sequence information is given based on 100% 50% or 25% tensioner utilisation.

The CTST range of tools offers all the features and benefits engineers come to expect from Tentec’s bolt tensioning equipment. They are compact and reliable and have been designed to fit on most ANSI-API-MSS pipeline flanges.

Second to none is the seal reliability. All Tentec tensioners have polyurethane self-energising lip seals that ‘snap fit’ into the piston housing, this means they remain firm and will not dislodge and fail, even after prolonged use. User safety is also paramount and Tentec engineers have incorporated a simple failure mechanism that diverts any escaping fluid away from the operator in the event of the maximum stroke movement being exceeded.  A visual indicator also confirms when this maximum position is reached.

Tentec are one of the few tensioning companies in the world who can provide specially designed bolt tightening solutions.  If the standard ranges of Tentec tools are not suitable, contact Tentec and they will design a special tensioner solution normally within days of your enquiry and provide a fully detailed proposal drawing and quotation.
