Tests confirm the large flow capacity of Bluewater’s Composite Cryogenic Hose

2009.05.26 - Technology

Bluewater Energy Services B.V., a member of the Bluewater group of companies, have successfully completed a series of flow tests on their Composite Cryogenic Hose for offshore LNG transfer.
The flow tests were held at TNO Deltares, and the results confirm the large flow capacity of the hose, with volumes exceeding 5000 m3/h achieved. The hose was tested in a straight and bent configuration at only four times its diameter, simulating both tandem loading and side-by-side transfer modes. With the successful completion of these flow rate tests the Composite Cryogenic Hose is a step closer to being awarded the EN-1474-2 qualification, which is a part of the qualification of Bluewater’s offshore LNG transfer system (which comprises the Composite Cryogenic Hose), to DNV RP A203.
Large volume transfer is vital in limiting exposure to risk during any offshore or LNG operation. The composite cryogenic hose is the one truly flexible, Type Approved hose for offshore LNG transfer. The tests have confirmed that this hose allows the highest achievable flow-rates for offshore LNG transfer hoses currently available in the market.
“The proof of the pudding is in the eating”, commented Hugo Heerema, President and CEO of Bluewater. “The same is true each time a product is tested to its limits. I’m pleased to say that the completion of these tests marks an important part of the DNV qualification process, and is further proof that our Composite Cryogenic Hose is fit for service, and ready for large volume offshore transfer of LNG”.
The unique composition of the hose includes re-designed end fittings that overcome the limitations of existing composite hose designs, as well as a number of design modifications that have improved axial strength, while maintaining flexibility - both critical requirements for marine environment dynamic operations.
